Clarice Halanga

Clarice Halanga is a passionate community leader, entrepreneur, and advocate for social justice. She is the Executive Director of Build and Enlighten Communities Initiatives (BECI), a women-led organization focused on empowering vulnerable women through skills training, economic independence, and gender-based violence prevention.

A survivor of gender-based violence and systemic barriers, Clarice founded BECI to provide women and girls with practical skills, dignity, and hope. Through programs in tailoring, hairdressing, pastry making, and entrepreneurship, BECI helps women become economically self-reliant.

Clarice is a certified paralegal, skilled community mobilizer, and holds a diploma in Web and Design. She is also trained in life skills facilitation and has partnered with both grassroots groups and institutions like Oxford University. Her leadership in the Mathare Women’s Empowerment Project reflects her deep commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities.

Linet Akinyi

Linet is the Finance Officer at Build and Enlighten Communities Initiatives (BECI). She is a self-driven and hardworking professional who ensures the organization’s financial systems run with transparency and efficiency. Linet oversees budgeting, financial reporting, and day-to-day accounting, helping to ensure resources are well-managed and aligned with BECI’s mission.

Her attention to detail and strong sense of accountability make her a key part of the team, supporting the financial sustainability of BECI’s programs and partnerships

Grace Nduku

Grace Nduku serves as the Programs Officer at Build and Enlighten Communities Initiatives (BECI), where she leads the planning, coordination, and implementation of community-based programs that promote women’s empowerment, economic inclusion, and the prevention of gender-based violence.

Grace is a passionate and results-driven professional with a strong background in community engagement, training facilitation, and program management. She works closely with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and partner organizations to ensure that BECI’s programs are responsive, impactful, and aligned with the needs of the communities they serve.

Her ability to coordinate diverse activities—ranging from vocational skills training to advocacy campaigns—makes her an invaluable member of the BECI team. Grace is deeply committed to creating safe spaces where women and girls can thrive, and she brings compassion, leadership, and a collaborative spirit to every project she leads.

Mercy Nyalenda

Mercy is a skilled hairdresser and entrepreneur with a strong passion for community empowerment. At Build and Enlighten Communities Initiatives (BECI), she serves as a Hairdressing Facilitator, where she trains and mentors women and girls in practical salon skills to support their journey toward economic independence.

In addition to her role at BECI, Mercy runs her own successful salon business, giving her firsthand experience in entrepreneurship, customer service, and self-employment. Her dedication to sharing knowledge and uplifting others has made her a respected figure among the women she trains and supports.

Asha Hassan

Asha Hassan is the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at Build and Enlighten Communities Initiatives (BECI), where she brings exceptional dedication, technical skill, and passion for community transformation. She plays a key role in designing monitoring tools, tracking program performance, and supporting data-driven decision-making to improve impact and accountability.

Beyond her M&E role, Asha is a trained Gender-Based Violence (GBV) facilitator who actively leads awareness campaigns, survivor support sessions, and community outreach programs. She is deeply committed to the fight against GBV and is often on the frontline advocating for the rights, dignity, and safety of women and girls.

Asha is also an expert in industrial chemistry, with specialized skills in detergent production and formulation. Her technical knowledge allows her to train women and youth in practical, income-generating skills that foster economic independence and reduce vulnerability to violence.

Highly respected for her integrity, work ethic, and deep sense of purpose, Asha is a vital part of the BECI team, blending data excellence with hands-on community empowerment.
